AirAsia champions SEA Games 2023, uniting Asean beyond the games

PHNOM PENH, 3 May 2023 - AirAsia is proud to champion the #BeyondTheGames initiative under the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) in support of the Kingdom hosting the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2023. Cambodia 2023 marks the first SEA Games to be hosted by the Kingdom.

Further supporting the initiative, AirAsia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with #BeyondTheGames encompassing a greater commercial collaboration and strategic partnership between the airline and the organisation, including integrating AirAsia’s brand across the campaign.

In conjunction with the signing ceremony, AirAsia also unveiled #BeyondTheGames livery which will be flown across AirAsia Malaysia’s (AK) extensive domestic and international routes, especially in the ASEAN region, which offer key opportunities to promote Cambodia's tourism sector even after the major sporting event.

The livery was unveiled by Vissoth Nam, AirAsia Cambodia CEO with the the presence of His Excellency Sok Sabayna, Executive Director of #BeyondTheGames campaign and Under Secretary of State of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and Mrs. Laurence Erbs, General Manager of Phnom Penh International Airport at the airport.

His Excellency Sok Sabayna, Executive Director of #BeyondTheGames campaign and Secretary of State of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports said: “For Cambodia to be the host for the first time of the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games, it is an opportunity for Cambodia to promote the two sporting events and through the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, we are able to showcase our national pride and prestige to the world.”

Vissoth Nam, AirAsia Cambodia CEO said: “Sport is a universal language that brings people together regardless of origin, culture, religion, and customs. As the people’s airline, AirAsia has supported many sporting initiatives and partnerships over the years, including previous SEA Games.

“We are proud to be able to champion the #BeyondTheGames initiative for 2023 and be part of the historical SEA Games in Cambodia together with the people from all over the region. The most-awaited sporting event is a good example of what the region can achieve, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to promote the vision of unity through greater connectivity.

“We look forward to flying the A320 aircraft boasting the #BeyondTheGames campaign with its tagline “Hearts Beat in Sync” all over the region beyond the games.”

Cyril Girot, CEO of Cambodia Airports, the developer, and operator of Cambodia’s three international airports and member of the VINCI Airports network said: “We thank our partners for giving our airports teams the opportunity to play a part in the #BeyondTheGames initiative. We share the campaign’s values and, therefore, are well disposed to its inclusive principle and tourism centric approach.

“After the successful handling of dignitaries and participants at our airports during the ASEAN Summit and meetings in 2022, we aim at the same level of airport experience for the SEA Games visitors and the delegations from 11 countries.”
