6 June 2026 - AirAsia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Aviation Carbon Markets Compact to amplify our ongoing efforts in Southeast Asia to scale up CORSIA EEUs and to boost the availability of 225–250 million CORSIA Eligible Emission Units (EEUs) by spring 2027. This initiative drives carbon-neutral growth from 2020 towards ICAO’s net-zero goal by 2050, whilst supporting global airline carbon cancellation requirements by January 2028 under CORSIA’s First Phase (2024–2026).

This signing aims to advance AirAsia's environmental commitment in Southeast Asia, particularly by collaborating to scale up the supply of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (CEEUs). Although AirAsia is not an IATA member, joining this Compact directly aligns with the company's sustainability goals.

AirAsia is ready to build confidence in CORSIA amongst travellers and stakeholders by transparently disclosing its procurement of high-integrity carbon credits. This Aviation Carbon Markets Compact is a global alliance comprising carbon market stakeholders, airline operators, and member states. The Alliance aims to:

  • Pool the participating organisations’ resources and target bottlenecks with tailored, practical, and pragmatic implementation assistance.
  • Facilitate and enable countries’ management of the interface between their Nationally Determined Contributions under the UNFCCC and the process required to make carbon credits available for use under CORSIA.
  • Improve countries’ access to carbon markets and related resources.

Membership in the Alliance is open to all organisations and national governments committed to providing expertise and practical resources. Partners will actively contribute to expanding the supply of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs) and ensuring the robust implementation of CORSIA alongside Article 6.2 guidance of the Paris Agreement.
